US Congressman. He was born one of ten children to Ebenezer Jackson and Charlotte Fenwick Jackson in Savannah, Georgia. He was educated locally and pursued academic studies before attending and graduating from the prestigious St. Mary's College in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1814. He then studied law at the Litchfield Law School in Litchfield, Connecticut, was admitted to the bar and relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he commenced his practice of law in 1821. In June of 1822, he married Eliza Anne Harper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the couple would have five children together (Mary Charlotte Jackson was born in 1823, Elizabeth Harper Jackson was born in 1825, Arthur Harper Jackson was born in 1826, Robert T. Mitchell Jackson was born in 1828, and Harriet Fenwick Jackson was born in 1830). He moved to Middletown, Connecticut, in 1826. He then decided to enter politics and he was elected as a Member of the Connecticut State House of Representatives and served in that position from 1829 to 1832. He then ran for a seat as an Anti-Jacksonian Candidate in the United States Congress and was elected to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of United States Representative Samuel Augustus Foote. A Member of the Whig Party, he then served the State of Connecticut as an At-Large Delegate representing the Twenty-Third Congress in the United States House of Representatives from 1834 to 1835. After his term in the United States Congress expired on March 3, 1835, he was succeeded in office by United States Representative Andrew Thompson Judson. He was not a Candidate for reelection to the Twenty-Fourth Congress in 1834. His wife Eliza Anne passed away on May 28, 1838, at the age of 37, in Middletown, Connecticut, and was buried there. He served as a Delegate to the Whig National Convention from Connecticut in 1839. On September 1, 1840, he married for the second time to Hannah Saltonstall Hubbard in Middletown, Connecticut, and the couple would have seven children together (Mary Selina Jackson was born in 1841, Eliza Anne Jackson was born in 1843, Robert Nesmith Jackson was born in 1845, Sophia Hamlin Jackson was born in 1847, Charles Eben Jackson was born in 1849, Katherine Frances Jackson was born in 1851, and Margaret Ellen Jackson was born in 1853). He lastly served one more term as a Member of the Connecticut State House of Representatives in 1849 before his retirement. Following his time in politics, he resumed his practice of law until his death. He passed away on August 17, 1874, at the age of 78, in Middletown, Connecticut, and was buried in the Indian Hill Cemetery in that city. His second wife Hannah passed away on September 21, 1903, at the age of 88, in Middletown, Connecticut, and she was buried with her husband.
