She was the daughter of Henry Wellington Stingley and Minnie Alice Hess
Minnie Alice Hess, and she was raised in Yukon, Oklahoma. She had a sister named Bessie Neoma Stingley Vickers.
She married Charles Edwin Brown in about 1912 in Oklahoma. They had two children, Hazel Neoma Brown and Marvin Edwin Brown (my grandfather).
Vernal and Charlie divorced and within a few years (1927) she remarried Donald Dean Pettit. They did not have children together. They did live for a while in Uvalde,Texas.
Vernal was a beautician by trade and after her husband's death moved to Anchorage Alaska to be near her daughter. She lived in Alaska for 7 years. At some point she moved to Wesleyan Nursing Home where she passed away from congestive heart failure on November 8, 1979. (Just 5 days following her daughter-in-law Jean Brown's death. It must have been a terrible week for Marvin.)
Vernal now has several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
