Born in Detroit Mi. Frank Rosolino took up Trombone at age 14,following Service in the Army's 86th Division in WWII he played in Many Bands, most notably with Gene Krupa then with Stan Kenton in Los Angeles California which by this time was serving up the beginnings of what was to be known as West Coast Jazz.Working with Howard Rumsey's Lighthouse All-Stars and leading his own groups. There seemed No limitations to what could be done with his Trombone, personally he was well-loved and very popular by many people, he had an insane sense of humor that may have masked deeper problems. In February 1972 his third Wife and Mother to his Sons committed suicide,he was heard often commenting that He and The boys Justin and Jason were all alone and maybe it would be better to go with her. Unfortunately nobody then thought much of it. On the night of Nov. 26 1978 he committed suicide after he shot both sons Justin 9 and Jason 7,the younger boy survived blinded.He was adopted by Frank's Mother's Cousin Claudia and her Husban Gary Eien.He also had an older Daughter Felicia Rosolino who after his death moved to New Zealand with her Mother, he never mentioned her in any biographies.Aside from his tragic end to his life he is remembered as one of The World's Greatest Trombonists and The International Trombone Association has established The Frank Rosolino Memorial Scholarship for Jazz Trombone.
