The Rhode Island Monument was erected by the State of Rhode Island to commemorate the services of Rhode Island Volunteers who died in North Carolina during the Civil War. The sculpture was completed in 1908 by William Whitney Manatt, of the Gorham Manufacturing Company, Founders, Providence, Rhode Island. It was dedicated on October 6, 1909. The monument is a bronze female sculpture dressed in classical drapery on a pink granite base with the inscription.
