Florida Governor. Known as "The Veto Governor", he was elected the third Governor of Florida in 1852, serving until 1857. During his tenure, he vetoed numerous legislative measures and his most decisive veto was on a bill that would have eliminated the State Supreme Court. After leaving office, he served in the Florida State Senate from 1860 to 1864. His son John Dozier Broome served as a Florida Circuit Court Judge and his son James E. Broome Jr. served in the Florida Senate.
