Silas Elder Dies.
Newkirk, Feb. 5, - Silas Elder, romantic Negro of the Kaw county died in Newkirk early Tuesday morning and funeral services will be held at the Weber Funeral Home at 10:30 o'clock, Thursday morning with burial in the Newkirk cemetery. He was between 80 and 100 years of age, the exact age is unknown.
Elder as he was familiarly known, was an old cow camp cook and at one time was cook in the old Russell ranch in the Kaw country. He was known to practically all of the cow hands in that area and had cooked for many of them. He has no known living relatives.

Cyrus Elder, well-known colored man who has lived here for some time, died Tuesday morning at four o'clock from heart trouble. Burial was in Newkirk Cemetery.
The age of the deceased familiarly known as "Nig", has never been determined. "Nig" himself claimed he did not know when he was born. His age was set by acquaintances as being from 80 to 100 years. He had no living relatives. He had lived in Kay county forty years and at one time was cook on the Russell ranch.
