Major League Baseball Player. He was a right-handed pitcher for four teams in ten seasons in the major leagues. He pitched for the New York Giants (1919 to 1924), Boston Braves (1925 to 1926), New York Yankees (1928), and finished with the Brooklyn Dodgers (1933). During his career, he played in 249 games. He was a starting pitcher in 73 games, compiling a 52-47 won-loss record. He had an earned run average of 4.14 and struck out 315 batters. He played in three consecutive World Series with the Giants (1922 to 1924). Coming out of the bullpen in relief, he holds the record for most World Series relief wins with three. He also became in 1924 only the second pitcher (and first in the National League) to hit a home run in the World Series. He was a manager, general manager, and executive for several years in the minor leagues.
