Journalist. Mr. Schorr was a renowned journalist who covered world events for more than half a century. He graduated from the City College of New York in 1939 while working for the Jewish Daily Bulletin. During World War II he served in Army Intelligence. In 1953 Schorr joined CBS News as a recruit of famed journalist Edward R. Murrow. In 1955 he opened the CBS bureau in Moscow and two years later gained an interview with Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev. In 1962 Schorr aired the first investigative report on life in communist East Germany. His reporting on the Nixon White House would later put him on the infamous "Nixon Enemies List". Schorr won Emmys from 1972 to 1974 for his insightful reporting. In 1979 he was one of the first to be hired to work at the brand new Cable News Network and would work there until his "firing" in 1985. After his departure from CNN, he went to work at National Public Radio until his passing. He was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2002.
