Born June 1905, died June 1925, the aptly named June was the oldest of five boys. Raised in the rural central Michigan township of Onondaga, Ingham County, he also had one older sister, Stella. June's parents, Zora (Miller) and Henry Rushmore Packard, both natives of central Michigan, were married in 1901 in Charlotte, Eaton County. Sadly, June did not get the opportunity to start his own family, but his memory was kept alive by his siblings and will undoubtedly continue to be preserved by their descendants.
June was exceptionally tall, and he had a full curly head of deep dark brown hair which he later kept greased down following the style of the time. As the oldest son, he was expected to take a leading role on his father's dairy farm, coordinating care of the livestock and other daily farming tasks. June ventured over to Detroit in his late teens, perhaps not only in pursuit of job opportunities but also of the independence and freedom offered by city life.
June was living and working in Detroit at the time of his death, and he was visiting Bartlett's Beach on Pleasant Lake for the weekend, accompanied by two friends from Detroit. Pleasant Lake, located in Jackson County, was a popular vacation spot for the Packard family.
