BIRTHDATE ON HEADSTONE IS WRONG. 7-22-15 IS HER CORRECT BIRTHDAY.

Mrs. Irene Ellen Apple Heflin, 63, of Oklahoma City, Okla, a native of Havana, died Wednesday, March 22. 1978 at 63.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents Ed and Dollie (Coffer) Apple, a brother Doss and sister Reba. Survived by daughters Freda Kendrick from Moore, Oklahoma and Wanda Sue David of Oklahoma City; two step sons , Junior Heflin and J.C. Heflin of Batesville; brothers Tom and Dale Apple; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Cornwell Chapel at Dardanelle. Burial will be at Possum Trot Cemetery near Belleville by Cornwell Funeral Services.

Growing up in hard times, Irene was also the mother figure for her younger brothers when her mother died. Irene was around 8 years old at time of her Mothers death and stepped into the role of Mother for the younger children at that time.

Irene lived most of her life in Arkansas, then moved to Oklahoma to be near her daughters Freda and Wanda Sue. The girls always made sure that Irene was brought back to Arkansas for visits with her two living brothers and sister-in-law Wanda.

Irene loved to fish, and would fish in a pond on property where her brother Dale lived in Dardanelle Arkansas. There was a large catfish in the pond that alluded everyone that would hook him. Irene named that fish "John Henry". When she wanted to go fishing she would say, "Lets go and see if we can catch ole John Henry." No one ever brought the fish out of the water onto land, but it was always a contest to see if one of us could.

I thought of you with LOVE today, but that is nothing new.
I thought about you yesterday and days before that too.

I think of you in silence, I often speak your name;
But all I have are memories that are captured in a frame.

Your memory is my keepsake with which I'll never part,
God has you in His keeping, but I have you in my heart.
Love Always Mary
