I honor you in death. I am descended from Patriots. Though America and Britain divided in history, today we are "Allies". A much improved Britain and America, had you lived, I think you would be pleased with the outcome of our nations.

You were the Nathan Hale of the British. You have General Washingtom s gift of a self drawing of yourself waiting to be hanged. The original is still in Tappan and wowit was well done. It looked like in way you were leaving him a memento. And Washington DID try to spare you through a prisoner exchange. You for Arnold. It fell through and you died honorably

You were doing your job. You died to preserve ties between Britain and America. During WW 2 a ceremony was held at your former grave with Britidh and American honor guards to let you know we WERE united and together fighting a terrible villain to humanity. I think the plaque is still there. Your mission WAS accomplished in the long run.

To Major John André with great respect and esteem on the 267th anniversary of your birth --"His death, though according to the stern code of war, moved even his enemies to pity, and both armies mourned the fate of one so young and brave." -- Part of the inscription on Major André's monument in Tappan, NY at the site of his execution and first burial. His remains were later reinterred in Westminster Abbey, London, buried among poets, heroes and kings.

Our national colors are the same. Our DNA the same. Language the same. We reverence the same God. Our singular divide was the Crown. Perhaps, by now, you and Nathan Hale have shared a bottle, wagging your heads at the enormity of the smallness of the life you both equally surrendered. It is always thus. Salute, Major!

236 years have passed since you died in place of Benedict Arnold. But history sometimes brings justice, Major, and you have been memorialized by two nations while Arnold the turncoat is honored by none. We are friends now, Major -- the US and UK -- and, God willing, that will always be so.

It is true both you and Arnold were Mason. To one securing a significant capture for his crown would be considered worthy by the moderns in Europe. To the other who attempted to give it to you, shame and dishonor and expulsion by the ancients.
