Hall of Fame Major League Baseball Player. Born in Richmond, Virginia, he was one of the best third basemen in the history of the Negro National League or any other league. For ten seasons, he played in the Negro National League with the Detroit Stars (1933), Nashville Elite Giants (1933), Newark Dodgers (1933-35), Newark Eagles (1936-39, 1942, 1944), New York Cubans (1949) and also eight summers in the Mexican League and eleven winters in the Cuban Winter League. He consistently batted .300 or better his whole career and as a third basemen had a .981 fielding percentage. After the color barrier fell, he played four years with the Giants' Triple-A affiliate in Minneapolis, batting .318 overall, won the American Association MVP in 1950 and retired from baseball with a life time .355 batting average. In 1987, he was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veteran's Committee. He died at age 90 in Palm Bay, Florida.
