Kacey Rose Mitchell arrived September 21st, 2005, after her first birthday, bruising and small dots were noticed, prompting a visit to the Dr, after months it was determined Kacey has Leukemia, one of the rarest forms of Leukemia AML-M7. The prognosis was poor and cure rates are low.

Kacey endured 5 rounds of intensive chemotherapy, averaging 30 days in the hospital per treatment. A few short weeks after the completion of the 5th round, on August 1st a relapse was confirmed. The only hope was stem cell transplant, but Kacey did not have a single match in the bone marrow registry of over 10 million people, but did have a viable match of a donated cord-blood. Kacey had a transplant, using that core blood. Her new stem cells were making blood and for the first time in a year.
A year long quarantine that lay ahead, but on February 26th it was confirmed that Kacey relapsed a second time. May 5th, 2008, Kacey passed away, at home in her bed with her loving Family. Besides her parents, she leaves a brother Max Joseph Mitchell all of Cheshire and her Maternal grandparents, Barbara and John Oddie of Hamden and her Maternal great-grandparents, Joseph and Marion Roche of Hamden; her Paternal grandmother, Mary Ann Mitchell of Naugatuck and several Aunts, Uncles and cousins Kacey memory is being preserved by the Kacey Rose Foundation, helping other children fight pediatric cancers through various channels.
