HENRY B. DUNN was born February 23, 1824, in Garrard County, Ky., and is the third of three sons and eight daughters, all of whom lived to be grown, born of John A. and Margaret (Bright) Dunn. John A. Dunn was born in Maryland, and when a boy was brought about 1800 by his parents and settled in Kentucky. He migrated to Monroe County in 1825; was a son of Augustine Dunn, who married Ellen Aldridge, and emigrated from Maryland about 1800. Mrs. Margaret Dunn was born in 1795, in Lincoln County, Ky., a daughter of Henry Bright, who married a Miss Pope. He and wife came from Pennsylvania, and were of Dutch parents; immigrated to Lincoln County, Ky., when a lad of eighteen years. Henry B. Dunn was reared on a farm and received a common school education. He was but a lad of thirteen years at his father's death; remained with his mother until nineteen, when he commenced the battle of life on his own responsibility. At twenty-one he purchased 300 acres at $1.53 per acre, partially improved, which he sold and purchased 225 acres where he now resides, in Gum Precinct, Monroe County, which he has improved with good residence and orchard. He married, February 11, 1847, Rhoda I. Flippin, of Monroe County, a daughter of James and Isabella (Brown) Flippin. By this marriage ten children were born - but three lived to be grown: Harriet I., J. Hughes, Josapeth [sic] A. and Nancy E. Young. Mrs. Dunn departed this life in 1863, and Mr. Dunn married, April 8, 1877, Mrs. Margaret Stahall, of Simpson County. She is a daughter of James and Nancy (Chason) Smith, who were natives of Kentucky and South Carolina, respectively. James Smith was a son of James Smith who maried Elizabeth Runnals. By her first husband Mrs. Dunn had born four children, one living, America E. Wilson. Mr. Dunn and wife are members of the Christian Church. He is a Mason; was a member of Grange, and cast his first presidential vote for Gen. Scott. Sine the war he has voted the Democratic ticket.
