Brewmaster. He received notoriety in the 19th century as a German-born American “Beer Barron,” eventually owning Green Tree Brewing Company. Following his father's footsteps in the brewmaster trade, he served as an apprenticeship in the brewer trade in Germany before coming to the United States in 1852. First, he found employment in St. Louis, Missouri at the Uhrigs Brewery and later at the Philadelphia Brewery. He became a partner in the brewery of Joseph J. Schnaider and Company. They built a new brewery on Eighth Street, using caves under the building to store beer. After purchasing Schnaider's part of the business in 1885, the company became known as The Green Tree Brewery with Feuerbacher becoming the president of the company. Eventually, Schnaider returned to Germany, dying there shortly after arrival. After becoming associated with brewer Louis Schlosstein, his company was legally incorporated under the name of Green Tree Brewing Company. He became very successful. With double bay windows and two stone lions guarding the entrance, the beautiful Lion House was built of red brick in 1874 for the Feuerbacher's family. This house is still a single family dwelling into the 21st century and a landmark in St. Louis.
