Professional Football Player. For seven seasons (1978 to 1984), he played at the right-tackle and offensive-guard positions in the National Football League with the Miami Dolphins. Raised in Danielson, Connecticut where he attended Killingly High School, he played collegiate football at Tulane University. He was selected by Miami during the 4th round of the 1978 NFL Draft and appeared in 86 career regular season games; he achieved All-Pro status in 1983. During the 1982 season, Laakso was a component of a highly-effective Dolphins' offensive line which featured veterans Bob Kuechenberg, Ed Newman, Jon Giesler and future Hall of Fame player Dwight Stephenson; they were a key factor in Miami's clinching of the AFC Title and an appearance in Super Bowl XVII in January 1983 (resulting in a 27 to 17 defeat to the Washington Redskins). Laakso concluded his career in 1984, appearing in 4 games with the Dolphins' squad that reached Super Bowl XIX in January 1985. He was inducted into the Tulane Athletics Hall of Fame in 1991. He died of heart disease.
