Inscription

For many years, a venerated inhabitant of this Town,
and a constant worshipper of this Church.
Endowed with a strong mind, cultivated by a liberal education.
He adorned every walk in life in which he appeared.
A judicious, enterprising and successful merchant.
A distinguished member, in succession, of the legislative Councils
of his own STATE and of the NATION.
He was in all, a wise Councillor, a benevolent and useful citizen,
and an EXEMPLARY CHRISTIAN; and in the various relations of life
UPRIGHT, DIGNIFIED, HONORABLE, and BELOVED.
He departed this life the 5th December, 1829, aged 74 years.

His widow and children, actuated by deep affection and veneration
have erected this memorial.
