U.S. Congressman. He was editor-publisher of the New York Courier newspaper, studied law at the Litchfield Law School Connecticut, was admitted to the bar and practiced law in Kingston, New York. In 1807, he was elected as a Federalist to the Tenth and Eleventh Congresses, serving until 1811. Declining to be a candidate for re-nomination, he was district attorney of the New York first district, (1813-15) and continued his publishing interests until his death at age 45.
