U.S. Congressman. After leaving high school, he served as a Private in Company H, 5th Infantry, U.S. Army, (1900-03). After serving in the military, he graduated from Eastman College New York, in 1905, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1910 and commenced to practice law in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, (1913-14) and served as president of the Pennsylvania Board of Health, (1916-20). In 1935, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fourth and Seventy-fifth Congresses, serving until 1939. An unsuccessful candidate for re-election, he was a Spangler City councilman, (1939-43), resumed the practice of law and was publisher of The Conservative weekly newspaper until his death at age 82.
