US Congressman. Born in Virginia, he studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Tallahassee, Florida. He was a member of the Florida State House of Representatives in 1837, served in the Florida State Senate, (1840-44) and was a United States District Attorney, (1841-43). In 1846, upon the admission of Florida as a State into the Union, he successfully contested as a Democrat the election of Edward C. Cabell to the Twenty-ninth Congress and served until 1847. He died at age 37 in Tallahassee, Florida.
