US Congressman. Born in Oakland County, Michigan, he graduated from the University of Michigan in 1846, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1848 and commenced to practice as a register of the United States land office at Red Wing, Minnesota. Upon the admission of Minnesota as a State into the Union, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-fifth Congress and served (1858-59). After his term, he resumed to practice of law until his death at age 46 in Spring Lake, Michigan.
