Ochestra Conductor. He was conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra (1929-1933), Cleveland Orchestra (1933-1943) and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (1947-1948). He taught at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1953 he conducted the world premiere of Sergei Prokofiev's "War And Peace" and Aaron Copland's ballet, "Appalachian Spring."
