US Congressman. Born in Hillsboro, Illinois, Dickson started out as a schoolteacher in Ramsey, Fayette County. He enlisted in the army in April 1898 and served during the Spanish-American War; following his discharge from service in May 1899 he returned to Ramsey. Dickson was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-ninth Congress, and served from 1905 to 1907. He was unsuccessful in his attempt for reelection. Subsequently he served as the adjutant general of Illinois from 1910 to 1922 and was later employed as the secretary to US Senator Medill McCormick. Upon his death Dickson was temporarily entombed in the abbey at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield Illinois. Shortly thereafter he was removed to the nearby military cemetery.
