US Congressman. Born in Dadeville, Alabama, he studied at Alabama Polytechnic Institute, graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor of laws degree in 1902 and began a law practice in Gadsden, Alabama. He was appointed as a Captain in the Alabama National Guard in 1903 and continued active until he resigned in 1907. He served as city solicitor of Gadsden, (1911-17). In 1919, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-sixth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of John L. Burnett, was reelected to the Sixty-seventh Congress and served until 1923. He declined to be a candidate for re-nomination, to serve as trustee of the State department of archives and history of Montgomery, Alabama. He died at age 83 in Gadsden, Alabama.
