Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the Union Army as a Private in Company B, 18th New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action at Petersburg, Virginia on April 2, 1865. His citation reads "Brought off from the picket line, under heavy fire, a comrade who had been shot through both legs."
