US Congressman. During the Civil War he served in the Confederate Army as Captain of Company H, 1st Florida Cavalry regiment. He was elected as a Democrat to represent Florida's 2nd Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1879 to 1881. Previously to that, he served as Lieutenant Governor of Florida from 1877 to 1879, and as a member of the Florida State House of Representatives in 1860.
