Richard N. Barrow was born to Ireby Stone Barrow and Martha E. Brown on April 17, 1870, in Jackson County, Illinois. He married Irene Packard (December 19, 1872-March 20, 1948) on December 28, 1892, in Los Angeles. They had six children:

1. infant Barrow (male)
2. Hazel Leslie Barrow, born March 26, 1893
3. Muriel Ione Barrow, born August 26, 1896, in California. She died July 30, 1967, in California.
4. Minnie Barrow, born August, 1897
5. Wilfred Newton Barrow, born August 18, 1901, in Los Angeles. He married Sybil Viola Archer in 1934, and he died December 11, 1955, in San Bernadino, California
6. Evelyn Barrow, born March 14, 1910, in Los Angeles
