Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Sergeant in the Union Army in Company G, 10th New York Cavalry (Porter Guard). He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on April 9, 1865 at Appomattox Courthouse, Virginia. His citation reads "Daring bravery and urging the men forward in a charge."
