U.S. Congressman. He engaged in journalism and newspaper publishing in various states until settling as a staff member of the Daily News in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, in 1893. He was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1912 and elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-third and Sixty-fourth Congresses, serving (1913-17). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed journalism until his death at age 73.
