Folk Singer. He was considered to be a very important figure of the folk music scene of both the 1950s and 1960s. He was a member of the folk musical group, the 'Kingston Trio' (with Nick Reynolds and Bob Shane) that was formed in 1956, in Palo Alto, California. The group were together until 1967 when they disbanded to work on other projects, but Guard left in 1961 to form another band. The 'Kingston Trio' recorded on such labels as, Capitol, Folk Era, Silverwolf, Pair, Collector's Choice Music, CEMA, and MCA, and had many hit songs in their 11 year history. In 1961 Guard formed the group, 'Dave Guard's Whiskeyhill Singers' also with Nick Reynolds and Bob Shane. Together they recorded one album for the Capitol Record Label and a second but was never released, before their breakup in 1963. Guard also was a member of 'Dave Guard & The Calypsonians.' He worked with a number of people including, Judy Henske, Tim Buckley, Cyrus Faryar, and David White. The Trio's many songs include, "A Worried Man" "Tom Dooley" "Hard Travelin" "Greenback Dollar" "Tijuana Jail" "California" "Reverend Mr. Black" "Scotch And Soda" "Merry Minuet" "Zombie Jamboree" "Sloop John B." "Hard, Ain't It Hard" "Where Have All The Flowers Gone?" "M.T.A." and "Raspberries, Strawberries."
