Delaware Governor. He attended Williams College, studied medicine with Dr. Clayton of Bohemia Manor, was licensed a physician and practiced medicine in Cambridge, Massachusetts, for four years. Returning to his birth state, he became established as a prominent physician and surgeon in Dover, Delaware. Entering politics, he served as a member and president of the Delaware State Senate (1786 to 1801). In 1801, he was elected as a Federalist the 14th Delaware Governor, serving until 1802. During his term, he continued to implement the agenda and policies of the previous former Governor Bassett’s administration. After leaving office, he remained active practicing medicine until his death.
