U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Hamilton College Law School in 1857 and was admitted to the bar and practiced law in Morrisville, New York, (1858-63). Moving to Michigan, he was elected alderman of the first organization at Bay City, Michigan, in 1865, was judge of probate of Bay County, (1868-72) a member of the constitutional commission of Michigan, in 1873 and a member of the tax commission, in 1881. In 1883, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-eighth Congress, serving until 1885. Declining to be a candidate for re-nomination, he practiced law and later lived in retirement until his death.
