Raymond W. "Dick" Brewer 82 of Streator died Friday afternoon (Aug. 26, 2011) at ASTA Care, Toluca .

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel Church , Streator with Rev. Philip Halfacre, officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 AM Wednesday at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator.

Burial with full military rites conducted by members of American Legion Post # 217 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1492 will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Streator.

Mr. Brewer was born Feb. 17, 1929 in rural Rutland and raised in the Toluca area. He was the son of Granville and Mabel (Self) Brewer. He married Mary Ann Gaydos, June 27, 1953 at St. Stephen's Church by Rev. Peter Bolerasky. She preceded him in death, May 11, 1993.

Dick had been employed at Owens-Illinois Glass Co. Streator for thirty eight years as a machinist, retiring in 1984.He was a member of the former St. Stephen's Church and currently a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1492 and a former of the GMP Union at Owens. He volunteered his help at St. Stephen's Church and Cemetery and enjoyed gardening, fishing and was an avid outdoorsman. He attended Fairview Grade School and LaRose High School and worked around various farms before enlisting in the US Army in 1948, where he was a Corporal in the infantry, stationed in Germany .

He is survived by sisters-in-law, Louise Elias and Helen Gaydos and brother-in-law, George Gaydos.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters, Rozetta Folkers and Thelma Hasty and brothers, Harold, Ernest and Thomas Brewer.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Ronald and Kevin Elias, Raymond and Frank Gaydos, Leonard and Terry Hasty.
