U.S. Congressman. He was engaged in agricultural pursuits, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1832 and commenced to practice law in Laurens, New York. He was a member of the New York State Assembly, in 1834. In 1841, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-seventh Congress, serving until 1843. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was judge of Otsego County, New York (1851-55) and resumed the practice of law until his death at age 65.
