U.S. Congressman. He attended La Grange College, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1848 and practiced law in Marion, Arkansas. He was a delegate to the State constitutional convention in 1867, served in the Arkansas State House of Representatives, in 1868 and a member of the Arkansas State Senate, (1870-73). In 1873, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-third Congress, serving until 1875. Not seeking reelection, he engaged in farming until his death.
