PROMINENT LAWYER CALLED BY DEATH.

Charles E. Benton Dies in Sixtieth Year - Funeral To Be Tomorrow.

Charles E. Benton, for many years a prominent attorney of Kansas, and for the last four years a resident of Los Angeles, died yesterday at the family home, No. 2302 Third avenue.  He was in his sixtieth year.

The funeral services will be held at Pierce Brothers' Chapel at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon, conducted by Dr. George Davidson of St. John's Episcopal Church.  The body will be placed in a vault at Rosedale Cemetery.

Mr. Benton was born in Ipava, Ill., and his early years were spent in that State.  He went to Iola, Kans., in 1880, and began the practice of law.  There he was married to Jeannette Scott.  The widow and three sons, Dean S. Benton, Donald L. Benton and Charles E. Benton, all of Los Angeles, survive him.

After ten years of law practice in Iola, he went to Fort Scott, Kans., and became General Attorney for the Missouri Pacific Railway in Southeastern Kansas, until his health broke, when he came to California in 1914.  Recuperating here, he entered the practice of law with his son, Dean S. Benton, but retired about a year ago.

Mr. Benton was a Thirty-second Degree Mason and a member of the Temple of the Mystic Shrine at Fort Scott.
