Monegasque nobility. Only-begotten daughter of Lambert Grimaldi, she was Lady of Monaco for the short period of eight months (1457-1458), and the first of the three cases of female succession at the helm of the Principality. In 1458, she abdicated in favor of her cousin Lambert of whom she later became the wife (1465). Claudine Grimaldi, whom historians consider the progenitor of the current dynasty, had no influence on political life and nevertheless lived one of the most turbulent periods of Monaco, during which tragic and violent events followed, including the death by murder of her son John II for hand of his brother Lucien I.
