U.S. Congressman. Raised on a farm, he studied law at Cumberland University, was admitted to the bar in 1891 and proceeded to practice law in Birmingham, Alabama. During the Spanish-American War, he served as a Private in the 1st Regiment, Alabama Volunteer Infantry, U.S. Army. After the war, he returned to his law firm and was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-fourth Congress and to the next ten succeeding Congresses, serving 1915-37. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law and later died in retirement. His son George Huddleston, Jr., was also a U.S. Congressman.
