The Honorable William Greenleaf was the Sheriff of Suffolk County from Oct. 31, 1775 to Dec. 14, 1780.

As sheriff he proclaimed the Declaration of Independence from the Old State House in 1776.

William was the youngest son of Daniel Greenleaf and Elizabeth Gooking. He married Mary Brown in Boston, Massachusetts on June 3, 1747, and they had fifteen children.
