U.S. Congressman. Born the younger brother of North Carolina Governor John Motley Morehead, he graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1819, studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was commissioner of Greensboro (1832, 34-35), served as a member of the North Carolina State Senate (1835-36, 38, 40, 42), and trustee of the University of North Carolina (1836-68). In 1851, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-second Congress, serving until 1853. Declining to be a candidate for reelection, he operated an iron works and engaged in agricultural pursuits, until his death.
