U.S. Congressman. While employed as a school teacher in Pleasant City, Ohio, he studied law, graduated from the Cincinnati Law School in 1892 and was admitted to the bar. He was superintendent of the Senecaville High School, Ohio (1893-95) and began the practice of law in Cambridge, Ohio, in 1895. Entering politics, he was a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives (1896-1900) and a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1904. In 1909, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-first Congress, serving until 1911. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death.
