Professional Football Player. Born in San Antonio, Texas, he was an All-American running back for the Southern Methodist University, when he was selected as an NFL first-round pick by the New York Giants in 1951. For eleven seasons with the New York Giants (1951 to 1961), he played in four Pro Bowls and was a member of the New York Giants' 1956 NFL Championship team. He finished his career with 300 passes caught for 4797 yards for 48 touchdowns and gained 871 yards in 231 rushing attempts with 4 touchdowns. In retirement, he was an NBC-TV sportscaster and also appeared in several television commercials. In 1964, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and is listed as one of the 50 top all-time New York Giants players.
