Father Gerard Burton M.Afr., died in evening of December 19, 2007, at St. Vincent's Nursing Home, Pinner, London. He passed away peacefully and suddenly, aged 95, 69 of which were led in an active missionary life in Tanzania and Great Britain.

A native of Wednesbury, West Midlands, England, Father Gerard joined the White Fathers and was ordained to the priesthood in Carthage, Tunisia, on March 25, 1939. Assigned to Tanzania, he rendered services across Lukula, Tabora, Rubya, Itaga, Ussongo, and Tlawi, serving among others as curate and secretary to the local bishop.

Father Gerry's Requiem Mass was held on Friday, January 4, 2008, at Ealing Abbey at 11.00 am., followed by burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, Kensal Green, at 1.00 pm.
