Mary Agee was the fourth of eleven children born to Jeptha Thornton (1821-1889) and Martha Ragsdale Walker (1820-1899). She spent her early life in the county and state of her birth, DeKalb Co., Missouri. In 1865, she moved with her parents to Oregon, settling first in Yamhill County.

On the 10 June 1866, Mary married John Agee (1839-1912), the son of Isaac Agee (1811-1900) and Cordelia Thornton (1815-1893), in Yamhill Co., Oregon. Between 1867 and 1889, Mary and John had twelve children: Leetia, Otto, Lucretia, Theodosia, John, Zopher, Emma, Owen, Ray, Roy, Kathyrn, and Bertha. In 1868, John and Mary moved their family to Wilbur, Douglas Co., Oregon, where they had a farm.

Her husband, John, passed away on the 26 April 1912 in Wilbur, and was buried in Wilbur Cemetery. Mary passed away about eight years later in Roseburg, Oregon on the 10 January 1920. She was buried next to her husband in Wilbur Cemetery.
