World War II German General. He served as personal Army Adjutant to Adolf Hitler. He was present during the attempt on Hitler's life on July 20, 1944, at Hitler's Wolf's Lair headquarters near Rastenburg, East Prussia (now in Poland). Schmundt was severely wounded by the bomb planted by Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, and died of these wounds in the hospital at Rastenburg, where he was presumably buried.
