Composer. Her light romantic music was very popular in the early 20th century. Chaminade's 400 published compositions include a symphony, a "Konzertstuck" for piano and orchestra, and a Flute Concertino that is still performed today, but her pure, melodic style was better suited to songs and solo piano pieces. In 1908 she was warmly received on a 12-city concert tour of the United States, and "Chaminade Societies" sprang up in the United States. and Europe. Her fame faded after World War I, however, and she retired to Monte Carlo. Her grave was later moved to the Cimitière Passy in Paris, q.v. [F-A-G #192694924].
