In 1850 he and his parents and eight siblings lived in Jenner Township, Somerset County, PA. His father worked as a blacksmith, Jacob as a collier, Frederick as a wagoner, and Leonard and he as laborers.

In 1860 he and his wife and their son lived in Yoder Township, Cambria County, PA. He worked as a laborer, and owned personal property worth $60.

In 1870 he and his wife and their five children lived in Ward 6 in Johnstown, PA. He worked as a rolling mill hand.

In 1880 he and Mary and their six children lived in Lower Yoder Township--Yoder had been split into Upper and Lower. He, Joseph, and William all worked as laborers.

In 1900 just he and his wife lived in a house they owned, mortgage free, in the same township. He worked as a day laborer.

In 1910 he and Mary lived in a house they owned, with a mortgage, in the same township. He was retired.

In 1920 he lived with his daughter Mary, her husband, and their son Merle on a farm they owned, mortgage free, in Cromwell Township, Huntingdon County, PA. His son-in-law also worked as a butcher in the retail trade, and Merle as a plumber working on houses.
