Texas Patriot, Statesman for whom the city of Seguin was named. Juan Seguin provided horses and aid for the troops of William Barret Travis and acted as a couirer during the seige of the Alamo. He also directed the burials of the remains of all the Alamo combatants in May of 1836. He commanded Company "A" (Calvary) 2nd. Regiment during the battle of San Jacinto. Citizens of Walnut Springs voted to rename the little community "Seguin" in his honor on February 25, 1883. Juan Seguin served as Mayor of San Antonio from 1841-1848. He also spent 3 terms as a senator for the Republic of Texas from 1837-1840. He is also credited for helping to pick a site for the Texas state capitol. He died on August 27, 1890 in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. His remains were returned to Seguin in September of 1974. He was reintered with special honors on July 4, 1976 by the city of Seguin and the Seguin Bicenteniail Commission.
