BARTLESVILLE, Okla. ~ Funeral services for K.S. "Boots" Adams, who guided Phillips Petroleum Co. into 10th place among the nation's oil conglomerates, were scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church.
Adams, 74, died Sunday in a Houston hospital. The retired president and board chairman of Phillips underwent vascular bypass surgery a week before his death.
He was flown to the Houston hospital March 15 after being hospitalized in Bartlesville five days in critical condition.
Adams joined Phillips, currently the nation's 10th largest oil firm, as a young dock worker and worked his way up to the company's top position. He became the company's second chief executive when founder Frank Phillips stepped down.
Adams served 26 years as president and 17 years as chairman of the board before his retirement in 1968.
A K.S. Adams Memorial has been established at the First National Bank in Bartlesville.
