Seaman First Class, United States Navy (Naval Reserve), World War II. He joined the Naval Reserve 1 September 1944. He transferred for training several times: from September to November 1944, he was stationed at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida. Then, from April to June 1945 at NAS Fort Lauderdale, training as a Gunner on the TBM/TBF Avenger torpedo bombers. From June to August 1945, he was transferred to NAS Miami and then back to Fort Lauderdale. Gunner on TBM Avenger "FT-3" [TBM-1C - BuNo 45714], that was part of the infamous Flight 19 squadron, that disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle during a routine 5-ship overwater navigation training mission out of NAS Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
